Natural diamonds are the original — formed 1 to 3 billion years ago, roughly 150 kilometres beneath the Earth's surface, under conditions of extreme pressure and temperature. Volcanic eruptions carried them to the surface through kimberlite pipes, where they were eventually discovered and mined.
Every natural diamond is one of a kind. No two stones have the same combination of inclusions, crystal structure, and optical properties. Salt and pepper diamonds are natural diamonds defined by their inclusions rather than judged against them. The "salt" is a scatter of white and silvery crystals; the "pepper" is the flecks of black carbon caught inside the stone as it formed deep within the Earth. The result is a galaxy held in a single diamond — speckled, smoky, and no two even remotely alike.
Like every diamond we set, they formed naturally over billions of years. They are the same material — pure crystallized carbon, 10 on the Mohs scale — but where a colourless diamond is prized for what it lacks, a salt and pepper stone is prized for everything it carries. Each one is a true one-of-one.
They suit a particular kind of person: someone drawn to character over convention, to a ring that looks like nothing else in the room. Salt and pepper diamonds are especially striking in rose-cut and bezel settings, paired with warm yellow or rose gold — a quietly unconventional choice for an engagement ring.

An antique mined diamond is exactly what it sounds like — a natural diamond pulled from the Earth generations ago, long before modern cutting machines existed. Many have already lived a lifetime in an earlier ring, sometimes a century or more, before coming to us to begin a second story. The term describes the stone's origin: a genuinely old, natural diamond.
There is a romance to a diamond with a past — a stone that has already marked one love and is ready to mark another. It's also one of the most sustainable choices possible: no new mining, simply a beautiful stone given a new life.
Because they were shaped by hand, often by candlelight, antique mined diamonds rarely behave like modern stones. They tend to glow rather than flash — a soft, warm sparkle with more depth and less of the machine-cut precision you see today.

An antique cut refers to the way a diamond is faceted — not where it came from. Before the twentieth century, diamonds were shaped entirely by hand to catch candlelight, with small tables, tall crowns, open culets, and chunky facets. These cuts produce a softer, warmer glow and a romance that modern precision-cut stones can't quite imitate.
Three antique cuts come up most often. The Old Mine Cut is the original cushion — a soft, squared shape with a high crown, hand-cut from the 1700s. The Old European Cut is the round brilliant's hand-cut ancestor, made roughly from the 1890s to the 1930s, with a small table and a large open culet that give it that signature candlelight sparkle. The Rose Cut is older still, dating to the 1500s — a flat-bottomed stone domed with triangular facets that glows rather than flashes.
You can have an antique cut two ways. A genuine antique mined diamond often already wears one. Or we can have a stone cut in an antique style for you — and because an antique cut is a style rather than an origin, it can be applied to a natural diamond or a lab-grown one, opening the look to any budget.
